I
hope all of you had a great summer. I can’t believe it
is already the end of October.
The NJHIMA Executive
Board has been actively engaged in a number of
initiatives to move our association forward.
CSA Core Service Achievement
Awards
Susan Scully,
President-elect accepted two awards on behalf of NJHIMA
at the AHIMA Leadership Conference. NJHIMA received a
second place award for our Educational Program Support
and second place for Student Retention/Reimbursement. We
thank Susan who drafted the awards applications on
behalf of NJHIMA.
AHIMA House of
Delegates
NJHIMA Delegates
represented the membership at the House of Delegates on
October 7.
Prior to the House, our
Delegates voted affirmatively to approve the resolution
on Diversity and the resolution on the Adoption of the
Personal Health Record. At the House, the NJHIMA
Delegates voted affirmatively to approve the resolutions
on Quality Documentation in the EHR and e-HIM
Professional Standards.
Our delegates also
introduced a motion to postpone the vote on the Vision
2016 resolution for 90 days. The motion was not passed.
The NJHIMA delegates offered a second motion to remove a
whereas clause from the resolution “The movement toward
the master’s degree as the terminal degree for the HIM
profession is influenced by broader trends in healthcare
work force development and increased healthcare market
demand” to the background section. The revised
resolution passed the House.

NJHIMA Executive
Board Activities
Nadinia Davis, Chair of
the Finance Committee has been working with the Finance
Committee and Amelia Mattoon, Treasurer, reviewing our
performance for the past fiscal year which ended August
31. The Committee is developing goals for our 2007-2008
budget and will be establishing a procedure to begin
development of the 2008-2009 budget starting in March
2008.
Mario Gallego, Chair of
the Education Committee has designed quarterly education
programs for the year. Our September meeting on ICD-9-CM
Changes, MS-DRGs and Present on Admission was a huge
success. We expect that our upcoming meetings on
November 2 and January 25 will also be very successful.
Information about our meeting on April 17 will be
available in February.
Carole Liebner, Coding
Roundtable Coordinator, will be working on three
roundtables throughout the state on Present on
Admission. These sessions will be interactive and give
you an opportunity to ask questions and discuss
difficult cases. More information will be available
shortly.
The Executive Board will
be meeting this Friday, October 26. If anyone is
interested in attending, please do not hesitate to
contact me at
kfrawley@devry.edu. The Board will be voting on
proposals to implement electronic voting for our
elections and to introduce audio conferences and
webinars to support continuing education for our
members.
Please do not hesitate
