Job Description: In this leadership role, you will manage the daily operation of the medical record coding/abstracting staff to ensure the timely and accurate coding of all pertinent diagnoses and procedures. You will also ensure that the DRG assignments are based on accurate and properly sequenced diagnoses and procedures, and that abstracted data elements from the medical records are entered into computer system data base timely, accurately and statistically meaningful.

Responsibilities include:

•Actively monitoring Discharge Not Final Billed (DNFB).

•Working closely with Patient Financial Services to ensure accurate and timely billing.

•Reviewing coders work for accuracy, productivity, quality, DRG assignments and verifying compliance with ICD, CPT and HCPCS guidelines utilizing essential compliance tools.

•Troubleshooting and resolving billing problems, admitting problems, non-compliant physician documentation.

• Performing all management functions including support for educational in-services.

•Assisting in the implementation of Policy/Procedure changes within the department related to coding and quality issues required by 3rd party payors and recommendations of coding consultants and/or agencies.

•Reviewing and preparing response to DRG/coding audits (i.e. BC, CBIZ, RAC and other payors).

•Meeting all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital.

•Performing all other management related duties as assigned, including Special Projects

Required Qualifications: To qualify, you must have an Associate Degree in Health Information Management, Bachelor Degree preferred, CCS along with three to five years of previous related work experience. Registration required as a Registered Health Information Administrator or Registered Health Information Technician. Superior leadership, organizational, oral/written communication, problem-solving and analytical skills are all essential.
