Job Description:   Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, City University of New York, seeks an accomplished practitioner-educator in Health Information Technology (HIT) to serve as the Director of the Program and also teach in the program. This position will begin fall 2022.

Guttman's HIT program combines lectures and labs and follows a curriculum based on current associate degree entry-level competencies outlined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The HIT faculty member will have the opportunity to further shape the program and to help students master the knowledge and skills that are expected of entry-level professionals in this fast-growing field. The successful candidate will also share the College's vision to serve a linguistically and culturally diverse student body and will be committed to preparing urban community college students for academic success and completion.

Required Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree in health information management, medical informatics, or a related health field required
• RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification
• A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience as well as experience in HIT management and demonstrated experience in supervising and management

Preferred Qualifications: 

• A practice of reflective thinking about teaching in Health Information Technology
• Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective instructional strategies and openness to adopting new practices
• Teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and educational backgrounds
• An understanding of community college students’ assets and challenges
• Creative curriculum design at the post-secondary level
• Active, student-centered pedagogy and significant student mentoring experience
• Use of current technology as it supports teaching and learning
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment
• Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, and written and verbal skills
• Experience designing and managing a new program or organization, preferably within an academic context
